This IPA was an investigation into the brewing process known as batch sparging. My usual process of using a fly sparge was resulting low efficiency. I feel this was due to channeling in the grain bed caused by poor mash tun drainage design. Efficiency was still poor with using the batch sparge, so I now will seek to improve my grain milling process from a grinding action to a crushing action.
This beer was brewed on 10/22/17 using Canadian 2 row malt, Maris Otter malt, and Carastan malt along with Citra and Cascade hops. It was fermented with California Ale Yeast WLP001 at 68°F with a warmer rest after 7 days to insure complete fermentation. Dry hopped with Azacca hops. Recipe can be found here.
